A Griffin man will stand trial in the District Court for his alleged role in a “horrifying” armed break-in, which police allege resulted in a Nanango man’s head being “caved in” with a hammer.

Daniel John Bell, 28, fronted Kingaroy Magistrates Court for a committal hand-up for the serious charge of entering a dwelling while armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

A further grievous bodily harm charge was withdrawn due to a lack of evidence.

During cross-examination by defence lawyer D Cruise, the alleged victim said his partner spotted two men walking out of his backyard “man cave” on January 7, 2017, and asked him if they were friends of his.

The Nanango man told the court he went outside to confront the alleged intruders and was told “don’t give a f--k who we are, just get inside”. One man was reportedly holding a long screwdriver and the other a hammer.

The men allegedly proceeded to search the house for money and “caved in” his head with the hammer when none was found, the alleged victim told the court.

The alleged victim’s partner, who appeared by phone as a witness, recalled finding blood everywhere, saying she’ll never forget that “horrifying” day.

She said police were called after she managed to yell out to a neighbour through an open window.

A blood-covered cap was allegedly left behind by the man carrying the hammer following a “scuffle” with the alleged victim, which Kingaroy Senior Constable Brendan Young said was swabbed for DNA.

Mr Bell was granted bail to appear in Kingaroy District Court at a later date.
