The trial of a 58-year-old Kingaroy man charged with assaulting two women at their home, began in Kingaroy District Court on Wednesday.

Craig Cameron pleaded not guilty to one count of occasioning bodily harm, a domestic violence offence, and two charges of common assault.

The court heard that those giving evidence in the trial would be two complainants, a police officer, a paramedic and Mr Cameron himself.

Crown prosecutor Sarah McCray said the alleged offences occurred on February 1, 2020 at Mr Cameron’s home at Kingaroy, against his partner and her friend, who was staying with them.

Mr Cameron had been drinking at a party in Yarraman with the two women, the court was told.

“On the drive on the way home he hit the car door a few times saying they were going to have fun,” Ms McCray said.

The court was told Mr Cameron repeatedly threatened to “f--k up” the father of his partner’s friend’s child.

“Once back at home, he went into the house and returned with a slingshot and arrow,” Ms McCray said.

“The women continuously pleaded with him to stop.

“Things came to a head when his then partner asked him to stop and he elbowed her in the ribs,” she said.

Mr Cameron punched the friend in the face as she said something back to him, in response he punched her in the face twice, “making her dazed and wobbly”, the court was told.

The court heard the woman fell down and hit her head on the corner of the kitchen bench.

“He threw his (then partner) towards an entertainment unit, pulled out a knife and followed her as she ran into the bedroom,” Ms McCray said.

“He made a thrusting and stabbing motion with the knife... (but then) put the knife down.”

Ms McCray told the jury although there was no video footage of the events, but that photos taken by police at the scene would be provided.

Mr Cameron’s ex-partner and complainant told the court Mr Cameron verbally abused her and her friend while pointing the slingshot at her friend’s stomach.

“He spat in her face and called her a n----r, and me a f-----g sl-t,” she said.

Defence barrister James Feely told the jury they should consider the reliability and consistency of witness accounts.

“Bear in mind if they are witnesses of credit,” Mr Feely said.

The trial will resume on Thursday morning at the Kingaroy District Court.
