A Nanango tradie mother was hauled before the court for the first time, after a “stupid decision” resulted in police finding dangerous drugs stashed in her bedroom.

Chantelle Maree Medcraft, 45, pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs and contravening an order or direction from a police officer.

Police prosecutor Lisa Manns said that a police search at Medcraft’s Nanango home at 4pm, April 9, revealed 0.3g of methamphetamines stashed under a mattress in a bedroom.

“She said it belonged to a friend of hers and couldn’t provide any reason for the property being hidden at her home,” Sergeant Manns said.

“The contact details of investigating officers were left if the friend wished to claim ownership of the items but no contact was made.”

The court heard Medcraft was ordered to participate in a drug diversion course phone consultation which she failed to attend on April 12.

Defence lawyer Sjaana Stephens said a young mum had lived with Medcraft for six months, and when Medcraft found drugs in her bedroom she hastily stashed them under the mattress.

“She acknowledges it was a stupid decision,” Mrs Stephens said.

“She has a consistent working history as a painter and plasterer.”

Medraft missed her drug intervention appointment by 25 minutes as she believed the program would call her, the court was told.

“She has no criminal history,” Mrs Stephens said.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said he took her clean criminal history and early plea of guilty into consideration.

Medcraft was sentenced to a six month good behaviour bond.

No convictions were recorded.
