Ballogie man charged with assault after allegedly lighting fires in the Burnett

In a bizarre incident, a man has been ordered to front court after allegedly stealing a firefighting tool and using it to light fires before assaulting rural firefighters and police.

Rural firefighters and police were allegedly assaulted after a man stole a firefighting tool and began lighting fires in the South Burnett.

The bizarre incident took place in Ballogie, 30 mins northwest of Kingaroy, on October 16.

Police allege at 8.50am, a 27-year-old Ballogie man took a piece of equipment from a Ballogie Fire Station during a training exercise.

The man then allegedly used the firefighters’ tool to start a series of fires around Pryors Road, Ballogie.

When confronted by rural fire officers, the man allegedly used the same tool to assault officers.

Police attended and it is further alleged the man assaulted a police officer during his arrest.

He has since been charged with unauthorised lighting of fires, serious assault and assault police.

He is due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on November 29.
