A Kumbia teenager will face court after he allegedly bailed on a high-speed crash he caused by assaulting the driver.

The 19-year-old was sitting in the back of the car when he allegedly became aggressive and pulled the hair of the male driver while the car was travelling 100km/h on the Bunya Highway at Benair.

Kumbia officer-in-charge Senior Constable Todd Armstrong said the driver lost control of the dual cab ute and slammed into a sign about 2.15pm Sunday.

The teenager allegedly fled the scene before police arrived, leaving the driver and three other passengers in the car.

They were taken to Kingaroy Hospital for observation.

Police charged the 19-year-old with dangerously interfering with the operation of a motor vehicle.

He is due to appear in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on June 23.
