Tributes flow for Murgon rugby club legend Glenn Kapernick

Tributes have flowed through the South Burnett in loving memory of the Murgon Mustang’s longest serving president, a loving husband, father and best friend.

The community is reeling after the news of Glenn Kapernick’s passing, on Sunday, February 26.

Mr Kapernick was a life member and president of the Murgon Junior Rugby League Club for nine years between 1991-1997 and 1999-2002.
Club president Wayne Gscheidle said the club was devastated by the loss of Mr Kapernick.
“He had a positive influence on generations of people and players, providing opportunities for grassroots footy to thrive during the nineties into the Naughties,” Mr Gscheidle said.
“He holds the record for longest reigning president for our club and in this time, numerous junior premierships were won, and he lead the club to two A-grade South Burnett premierships in 1991 and 1994.”
Mr Gscheidle said the club sent its most sincere condolences to Mr Kapernick’s family.
“Our thoughts are with you,” he said.
Janelle Kapernick said her husband loved “his” football club and the Murgon community.
Mayor Brett Otto paid tribute to his “best friend” and expressed how saddened he was by the tragic news.
“I don’t cry very often, but I did today,” Mr Otto said.
“One of the saddest times in my life to learn of your passing.
“A giant in stature, and in character, you were, and always will be my closest mate.
“Never judgmental, you loved your community and did so much to make Murgon a much better place, loyalty was your trademark.
“You’ve left me with so many wonderful memories and had such a massive influence on my life.”
Murgon resident Greg Schultz said Mr Kapernick was a truly great man who inspired and influenced people to reach their potential.
“You will be sadly missed big fella,” Mr Schultz said.
Councillor Kathy Duff said she loved the enthusiasm and zest for life and new ideas that Glenn had.
“I loved the painted hay bales, Glenn said that it made his heart sing at Christmas time to see families pulling over and kids laughing and loving the bales,” Mrs Duff said.
