The first motel built in Kingaroy is set to expand with three new small buildings containing a total of 10 units for guests to stay in.
The owners of the Kingaroy Country Motel, Ian and Kaye Rossmann, had their application approved on February 27, 2024, for a new development on 32, 34 and 36 Knight St, Kingaroy.
The Kingaroy Country Motel is situated among the lot at 38 Knight St.
According to the plans, three new structures will be built on the corner of Pound and Knight Sts, along with a small car park containing 11 parking spaces.

Two of the new buildings will contain two one-bedroom units and one three-bedroom unit.
A third building will contain four one-bedroom units.
Each unit will have a kitchen, bathroom and a small veranda.
According to the plans, an existing building will be removed to make way for the new development.
The Kingaroy Country Motel was originally built in 1961, and was heralded as “ultra-modern” and a “big boost to tourism” by a local newspaper at the time.

The construction of the motel was an exciting time for the town, to the extent people took out ads in the newspaper to praise the original owners, Mr and Mrs Thompson, for building it.
The couple reportedly built the motel with a vision to kick start tourism in Kingaroy.
In 2022, the motel celebrated 61 years with guests attending the event who were involved in the original construction and management of the hotel, including the children of some of the original tradies who worked on the building.
No date has been announced for the construction of the new units.
