A historic hotel originally built in 1937 will be torn down after a development application to build a new hotel and bottle shop on the site was approved by the South Burnett Regional Council.
The application approved on March 28, 2024, indicates the development will occupy land between Glendon and Kingaroy Sts, with the address 153-155 Kingaroy Street, Kingaroy, next to South Burnett Real Estate and opposite the Kingaroy Magistrate and District Court House.
According to the plans, submitted by ONF Surveyors on behalf of Jamptock Pty Ltd, the new building will have two storeys with the lower level containing a restaurant, bar and multiple seating areas at the front, and a bottle shop at the rear facing towards Glendon St.
The upper level will contain accommodation of 18 separate units including 10 one-bedroom units, five two-bedroom units and three three-bedroom units.
Each unit will contain a kitchen area and bathroom.
The plans also show 49 car park spaces behind the building including 16 spaces for the bottle shop and 33 spaces for the hotel.
Currently, the Broadway Hotel takes up part of the space but will be demolished, according to the plans.
To make way for the new car park, a house and shed on Glendon St will also be demolished.

The Broadway Hotel has a rich history, originally built by Joseph Thomas Anderson in 1929 before it was razed by a large fire.
The hotel was rebuilt in 1937 where it has stood ever since on Kingaroy St.
The hotel ceased operating as a business several years ago before multiple fires ripped through the building.

In December, 2022 a fire broke out inside the hotel damaging the upper floor of the building and another fire the following year gutted the rear end of the building.
No date has been announced for the demolition or when construction on the new hotel and bottle shop will begin.
