Flooding impacts Goomeri for several days following heavy downpour

The small town of Goomeri, home to about 500 residents, has been significantly impacted by flooding this week as a warning remains in place for the Burnett River,
The Burnett Highway, a crucial transport link, was closed in both directions from Wednesday through Friday afternoon.
Moore Street also faced temporary closures due to rising waters.
All affected roads have since reopened, with no current closures listed on the QLD Traffic incidents site.
In a statement, a Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said several rainfall stations in neighbouring areas recorded 60 to 70 mm over the past four days.
The most significant rainfall occurred in the 24 hours leading up to 9am on Wednesday, December 11.
HEAVIEST RAINFAILL IN YEARS
Some parts of the region recorded the most amount of rain in years.
Kilkivan TM recorded 46 mm, the heaviest December daily rainfall since 2019 (the fifth-highest daily fall in December in 25 years of data).
West Barambah TM recorded 73 mm, the heaviest December daily rainfall since 2010 (the seventh-highest daily fall in December in 23 years of data).
The spokesman added that there were isolated thunderstorms in the region on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and river levels on the Boyne River and Barker Creek remain elevated, as indicated by the flood warning for the Burnett River.
There is also a risk of showers and storms across the Wide Bay and Burnett regions in the coming days.
While the focus of heavy rainfall may be further north of Goomeri, light to moderate rainfall is still expected inland.
Although the catchments remain saturated, further rises in creek and river levels cannot be ruled out, but significant new flooding around Goomeri is not expected in the next few days.
Meanwhile, the festive spirit remains intact.
The Kumbia Christmas Carnival at the Kumbia Community Hall, just an hour away from Goomeri is still set to go ahead, with promotional posters shared as of Saturday morning.
However, not all activities have been able to continue unimpeded.
The Goomeri Show Society campgrounds were forced to close on Saturday due to the flooding.
