Here are some of our favourite swimming spots around the North and South Burnett.
South Burnett
Coomba Falls
Coomba Falls features a deep natural swimming hole and incredible granite cliffs.
Located about two kilometres from Maidenwell, it is a perfect spot for a picnic and a day of swimming.
Lake Barambah (Bjelke-Petersen Dam)
Completed in 1988, the Bjelke-Petersen Dam near Moffatdale captures the flows of Barker Creek, Four Mile Creek, Six Mile Creek, Frickey Creek and Cattle Creek to create Lake Barambah.
The lake is perfect for swimming, boating and water skiing.
If you wanted to make a weekend of it you can stay at the Yallakool Caravan Park on Bjelke-Petersen Dam.
Lake Boondooma Dam
Constructed in 1983 to provide a water supply for Tarong Power Station, Boondooma Dam is located on the Boyne River on the boundary of Boondooma and Proston in the northeast of the South Burnett and is also fed by the Stuart River.
Located 20 kilometres north of Proston, the award-winning Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park provides a range of camping and cabin accommodation options year-round.
Ficks Crossing, Barambah Creek
Ficks Crossing is a small waterhole about five kilometres outside of Murgon, on the banks of Barambah Creek.
The creek is popular with kayakers and paddle boarders. One end of the creek is shallow and provides easy access to enter the water for a swim.
North Burnett
Auburn Falls National Park
Located about 36km southwest of Mundubbera, along the Rural Getaway, is Auburn River National Park.
The 405 hectare park features caves, rock pools and amazing scenery and provides recreational activities including bushwalking, swimming and rock climbing.
When the river runs, it cascades over huge salmon-coloured boulders and winds through the park.
Claude Wharton Weir
On the northern side of Gayndah turn off the Australian Country Way to find the Claude Wharton Weir on the Burnett River.
The waterways are ideal for swimming and canoeing and there is plenty of room for water skiing.
Facilities include a boat ramp, picnic shelters, barbecues, public toilets and car parking.
Lake Cania
Cania Gorge National Park and Lake is regarded as a must see while visiting the North Burnett region.
Travel north 11km from the Cania Gorge picnic area to the picturesque Lake Cania.
The lake is perfect for sailing, water skiing, canoeing, wind surfing and swimming.
Facilities include picnic shelters, electric barbecues, boat ramp and toilets.
Wuruma Dam
Wuruma Dam is located on the Nogo River 47km from Eidsvold.
Water sports include water skiing, power boating, canoeing, sailing, fishing and swimming.
Facilities include sheltered picnic tables, toilets and a boat ramp.
Camping is also permitted in the designated area for stays up to two weeks.
