LNP Nanango MP Deb Frecklington has endorsed her party’s Adult Crime, Adult Time policy aimed at holding youth offenders accountable with adult-level sentences for serious crimes, promising a tougher stance on youth crime.
Ms Frecklington, who is also the LNP spokesperson for Energy and the Cost of Living, Water and the Construction of Dams, and Regional Development and Manufacturing, said in a statement she believed the policy would address the issue of youth crime in the South Burnett and convey a clear message that serious offences would result in severe consequences.
“This policy will help address youth crime in the South Burnett and send a clear message to youth offenders they will serve serious time for their crimes,” she said.

The policy targets serious crimes including murder, manslaughter, serious harm such as wounding, home and business break-ins, robbery, car theft, and dangerous vehicle operation.
Ms Frecklington claimed the current leniency towards youth offenders had “emboldened” them to continue their criminal activities without fear of significant repercussions.
“For too long now youth criminals have been tormenting our local communities, and they often get nothing more than a slap on the wrist,” she said.
“This will end under the LNP’s Adult Crime, Adult Time plan.”
Ms Frecklington highlighted the need for tougher sentencing laws, citing a correlation between adult sentences and a reduction in crimes like robbery and home invasions.
The Adult Crime, Adult Time policy is part of the LNP’s broader initiative of Making Queensland Safer Laws, which focuses on protecting victims and enhancing community safety.
Ms Frecklington said the policy not only aimed to remove dangerous criminals from the streets but also served as a deterrent for future crimes.
“This is the tough on crime response people of the South Burnett have been asking for,” she said.
