KINGAROY Dance Krew are attempting to break the world record for largest disco dance.
Mum Kay Swansson has organised a fund-raiser to coincide with this on April 16 at 9am.
"It's on the pupil free day after the two week school holidays and is just to raise money for our Dance Group. We want to buy new costumes for the dancers,” Mrs Swansson said.
"We don't get a lot of funding because we're an after school dance club that allows anybody from year seven to year twelve to join in and have a go. Kids don't have to have any previous dance experience. They can just come along and have some fun.
"This year we're trying to do the Can Can dance.”
The current disco dance record stands at 314 dancers under the age of eighteen.
"So if we can get more than 314 kids along to join in then we get the world record,” Mrs Swansson said.
"At the moment we've probably got about 140 kids signed up.”
This will be the dance groups first ever fund-raiser.
There will be a cake stall, a jumping castle, a sausage sizzle, and face painting.
The dance begins at 11am.
"I love to see the kids having fun,” Mrs Swansson said.
"All of my kids have been involved and my youngest is currently in year twelve and is a part of the group. She's been going since year nine.
"Programs like this get the kids out there and encourage them to leave their worries behind. It's a safe environment where they can explore what their body can and can't do without worrying about what people think or say.”
The group is on every Wednesday afternoon from 3.30 to 4.30 at the Kingaroy High School.
It's been running for approximately ten years now
"We've got kids who have come through that have really high anxiety and left actually feeling confident about themselves,” Mrs Swansson said.
"We don't differentiate. Some of the kids we get are kids who would never have been able to take part in a dance class before because they couldn't afford it.
"The kids love it. They have an absolute ball. They can't wait for this. I don't know what's more important to them; beating the record or just having a great day with their friends and family.”
