A dangerous, aging, single-lane bridge at Kingaroy-Cooyar Rd is getting the axe with almost $500,000 committed to developing its replacement.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads said in a media release Tuesday the bridge, which crosses Tanduringie Creek about 20km southwest of Nanango, would be replaced with a wider one designed to solve flood, safety, and traffic woes.

“We’ve allocated $496,000 for the planning work,” TMR Regional Director Bill Lansbury said.

The announcement follows years of calls for funding in the wake of several incidents along the stretch, including a near-miss in 2020 between a loaded school bus and truck on the bridge.

TMR promised to seek feedback from adjacent property owners and key stakeholders.
