A private school preparing to expand its offerings and a tiny state school have been ranked as the best in the Burnett region for 2020 following an analysis of academic outcomes by an independent education group.

Data sourced from Better Education shows St John’s Lutheran School in Kingaroy topped the list for secondary schools, while Cloyna State School scored a perfect 100 to top the list of primary schools.

Better Education states the overall score was an index of performance, rather than a ranking, with schools assigned a number from 60 to 100.

The website was established in 2008 to provide a platform for education professionals across Australia.

St John’s Lutheran School also score highly in the primary school rankings, coming third with a score of 88.

While the school only offers place from Prep to Year 9, the school last week announced it would be expanding to offer schooling right through to year 12 in the coming years.

Principal Karyn Bjelke-Petersen said the move had taken a lot of hard work and planning over the past 12 months, but would enable St John’s to reach more families in the South Burnett.

Starting next year the school will expand to Year 10, with Years 11 and 12 to follow in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

In the primary school category, Cloyna State School was the stand out winner with a perfect score of 100, followed closely by Tanguringie with 97.

It’s a strong score for the two small schools, which easily outpaced their much larger cousins in the region.

In the North Burnett, Gayndah State School was the standout with an 84 followed closely by local competitor St Joseph’s School Gayndah with an 83.
