St John’s Lutheran School expands classes to Year 12 students

After an arduous year-long journey, St John’s Lutheran School have announced an exciting new step into the future.

Students will soon be able to tackle their senior year at St John’s Lutheran School as the ever-growing P-9 high school announces its expansion to Year 12.

Principal Karyn Bjelke-Petersen said the move had taken a lot of hard work and planning over the past 12 months, but would enable St John’s to reach more families in the South Burnett.

Starting next year the school will expand to Year 10, with Years 11 and 12 to follow in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

“The model proposed is for face-to-face teaching in Year 10 and a flexible delivery model in Senior, blending face-to-face learning and using subject specialists from other Lutheran schools,” Mrs Bjelke-Petersen said.

“This is operating successfully currently and enabling us to use technology to our advantage like many Lutheran schools in Queensland already.”

St John’s opened with just 26 students from Years 1-6 in 1989 and has grown rapidly over the years, now educating hundreds of students through to Year 9.

“We are under no illusions that there are a lot of long hours ahead, but we know that with God’s strength behind each of us, we will succeed in providing quality education to all of our students in our care,” Mrs Bjelke-Petersen said.

“We are blessed that a number of our secondary staff already have senior qualifications and will be well set to guide this growth. We will continue to look at our subject selections to ensure students have as many options for future careers pathways as possible.

“We look forward to sharing and shaping next year for our current Year 9 families.”
