The South Burnett is home to many high performing sporting clubs with a variety of sports on offer for all interets, ages and abilities.

From netball to croquet, here is how you can get involved in South Burnett club sport in 2023:

Futsal

South Burnett Futsal Club

The South Burnett Futsal Club play at Saint Mary’s Catholic College Sports Hall on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

The 5 to 11 year olds play on Mondays at 4pm in the junior team, teenagers between 12 to 15 years play on Tuesdays at 4pm and seniors aged 16 and over play at 6pm.

The membership insurance payment is $60 for all new players and an additional $90 per term.

Training and games will commence for 2023 on January 30.

Netball

The Kingaroy Netball Association

The Kingaroy Netball Association Junior Netball Competition will commence in March and runs until September.

Girls from the ages of 5 to 17 years and boys from 5 to 14 years are eligible to play.

The club trains on Tuesday afternoons from 4pm to 6pm and competes on Friday afternoons between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

Club manager Hayley McAnally said the club is at Rotary Park, corner of Fisher and Haly St, Kingaroy.

“We encourage everyone to come to learn and play netball in a fun, safe and inclusive environment, it is a place where you can play with your friends and meet new people from different towns and schools,” Ms McAnally said.

“We provide development opportunities to coach and umpire and there are opportunities to play against different associations and also representative opportunities.”

Club fees are yet to be finalised.

Nanango & District Netball Association

The Nanango & District Netball Association is a not-for-profit community-based sporting organisation which has been providing girls and boys aged 5 to 18 with an inclusive, fun, safe and family-friendly environment to foster and promote netball for 40 years.

The club is hosting free come and try sessions on March 3 and 10 from 4pm to 5pm, including a free sausage sizzle for all participants and their families.

The joining fee is $180, including a $30 refundable volunteer fee, for a 20 week program.

NetSetGo players will also receive a free participation pack including a ball, shirt or water bottle and bag.

Club manager Katie Mangan said the club aims to not only provide an organised and affiliated Netball Queensland Program for children, but promote friendship, personal skill development, team work and sportsmanship.

“We wish to encourage ethics and values to our youth to take forward into adulthood,” Ms Mangan said.

“We encourage players, coaches, and volunteers from the many different and wonderful small towns and communities around us.”

Croquet

South Burnett Croquet Club

The South Burnett Croquet Club operates all year and is inclusive to all ages and abilities.

On Tuesday mornings in the summer months the teams play from 8.30am to 11.30am and in the winter months from 9am to 12pm at the Lyle Vidler Oval on Youngman St, Kingaroy.

Night games are available in summer on Thursdays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The club provide all equipment necessary.

AFL

South Burnett Saints AFL

The South Burnett Saints AFL club plays at the oval at Youngman St, Kingaroy and accommodates players of all ages.

The club is holding a family day on February 4 with market stalls, a jumping castle, food vans and games at the Lyle Vidler Oval, Kingaroy.

The senior men and women begin training on January 17 at 5.30pm to 7pm.

The fee for adult players is $400 per year which includes a uniform and players insurance.

The under 17 trainings are on Tuesdays and Thursdays and their first game is on February 12.

Junior training for under 12 years and 14 years will begin on February 7.

The fee for the junior teams is $200 per year which includes a club polo, shorts, socks, a training singlet and insurance.

Senior women’s coach Sandy Banks said AFL is one of the fastest growing sports in Queensland and she wants the community to know that the All Saints are here and are a family club.

“It would be great to see families step outside of their comfort zone and give it a try,” Ms Banks said.

Rugby League

Murgon Mustangs

The Murgon Mustangs Rugby League Club sign ons close on February 9.

Club membership is $150 per player and $130 for a second player in the family.

Membership includes a pair of rugby socks and shorts.

Cricket

Kingaroy and Nanango Junior Cricket

The Kingaroy and Nanango Junior Cricket teams accommodate players of all abilities from age 8 to 18.

The teams are divided by ability, not age, into two divisions.

The clubs train on Thursdays from 4pm to 5.30pm at the Allan Dowling field, Nanango and Taabinga State School.

Mid season signups are now open and the first training session is on January 19 and is to be confirmed for Murgon Cricket Club.

The fee for a half season is $110 and for a full season $160, parents enrolling more than one child will be eligible for a discount.

Vice president Stuart Lamping said cricket is fun and very inclusive with a great social atmosphere.

“The competition in the South Burnett is very friendly and our players make lifelong friends,” Mr Lamping said.

“To join up simply go to playcricket.com,” he said.

Swimming

Kingaroy Swim Club

The competitive and recreational swimming squad sign-ups at the Kingaroy Swim Club begin in September.

The competitive swimmers compete all year whereas the recreational swimmers are able to swim from September to March, before the Kingaroy pool closes for the winter months.

The registration fees for 8 years and under is $87 for squad and recreational swimmers.

For ages 9 and over, the competitive squad swimmer fee is $149 and $117 for recreational swimmers.

Club president Kylie Woolnough said swimming is important in rural areas as there is a big issue with children drowning.

“Learning to swim, whether they join club or not, is something every Australian child should do,” Mrs Woolnough said.

“Swimming as a sport it is great because it can be an individual or team sport,” she said.
