There are plenty of ways to commemorate Australia across the South Burnett region on January 26.

With thong tossing, free breakfast barbecues, live music and all your favourite Aussie foods, there is a fair dinkum line-up you can sink your teeth into:

Blackbutt Family Fun Day

The South Burnett Regional Council has collaborated with local groups to create an all day event to be enjoyed by the whole family.

The celebrations kick-off at 8am with a free sausage sizzle at the Roy Emerson Museum, Blackbutt.

The feast will be followed by an official raising of the Australian flag, hot damper and jam, performances from local artists and a gumboot throwing competition.

Brooksy’s Memorial Golf Day at Kingaroy Golf Course

In honour of Ben Brooks, a young Kingaroy man who lost his battle to cancer on Australia Day 2022, Brooksy’s Golf Day will include three themed games of golf, afternoon tea, live music, tug of war, a thong toss, raffles and drinks.

Money raised on the day will be spent locally and purchases will be delivered to the Leukaemia House, where Ben stayed while he was sick.

Guests are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and camping chairs.

Kingaroy Town Hall

Celebrations in Kingaroy will begin at 7am for a special breakfast cooked by the Lions Club.

Scones and damper will be provided, with a children’s activity area run by the Bunya Scouts.

At 9am, the lag raising ceremony will be performed by the South Burnett 135 Army Cadet Unit, followed by a citizenship ceremony.

The event will include raffles and entertainment from local artists.

Boondooma flag raising and barbecue

The Boondooma Homestead, Mundubbera Durong Rd, will begin celebrations at 5pm for an official raising of the Australian flag, followed by a barbecue.

Nanango RSL

The Nanango RSL will host live entertainment from noon, with food and drinks available for order.

Sawmill Hotel, Wondai

The Samwill Hotel, Wondai are hosting a barbecue sausage sizzle from 11.30am.

There will be sandwiches, homemade rissoles and free bar snacks.

The Hivesville Progress Association invited all residents to celebrate their award recipients and enjoy a tasty breakfast at the Hivesville Memorial Park from 7am.

Wondai Art Gallery competition

The Wondai Art Gallery is cooking up a free barbecue breakfast from 7am, and an Australian flag raising ceremony at 9am.

All guests are invited to paint, draw and create at their art competition, with artists available to help.

At 6pm, guests will be invited to a free pizza feast, where the winners will be announced and other prizes awarded.

Hivesville Australia Day Awards

The Hivesville Progress Association invited all residents to celebrate their award recipients and enjoy a tasty breakfast at the Hivesville Memorial Park from 7am.
