Antola Trading named after AgForce’s first female general president and South Burnett cattle producer Georgie Somerset

AgForce’s first female general president was hand-picked by the brand’s founder to have a shirt named after her, reflecting years of inspirational work in the South Burnett and rural Queensland.

AgForce‘s first female general president and South Burnett cattle producer, Georgie Somerset, is among the list of inspirational Australian’s honoured in the outback brand Antola Trading’s latest collection of shirts.

One of 23 influential Australians hand-picked by founder Alicia McClymont, Ms Somerset is being honoured for having a diverse impact on regional and rural Australia through the local community and the Agricultural industry.

Ms McClymont said Antola are “thrilled to have connected with Georgie, to share her story about furthering a career while living in rural Australia.”

From her hometown in the South Burnett region, about an hour west of Kingaroy, Ms Somerset juggles running AgForce with her the family’s beef cattle enterprise.

She said she’s never felt the need to live permanently in the city to further her career, attending Zoom meetings with the other members of the ABC Board of Directors and corresponding with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, of which she is also a board member, from her regional office.

“I moved up here in ‘89 and I had my fax machine that cost me $3,600 and I used to cart it up here on weekends,” Ms Somerset said.

“At the moment I say that I work full-time off-farm, it’s just that I get to do a lot of it from the farm. And so, in a sense our [beef] business is flexible, working around that.

“But I think, that's the beauty of living on the land. You can flex the work around what you’re doing, either the off-farm work or the on-farm.”

Ms Somerset said she is very humbled to be part of the line-up of women who have inspired Antola Trading’s latest collection.

“It’s very humbling to have a shirt named after me. It’s a great way for us to support different people. I love what Antola are doing in telling not only rural women’s stories but rural men’s stories too. As well as also finding a different way that you can share the message and make it relatable,” she said.

To celebrate the incredible people involved in the new campaign, Antola Trading has also partnered with Humans of Agriculture to share each person’s story in a series of podcast episodes.

“We think everyone has a good story to tell, and that’s especially true in the country! So, we are incredibly excited to be partnering with Humans of Agriculture to bring each of our amazing ambassador stories to people's ears for the first time,” Ms McClymont said.

Humans of Agriculture is on a journey to share 10,000 stories that celebrate the incredible people involved in regional Australia communities.
