Husky’s Cafe Kingaroy announces it is closing its doors, reveals plans for new project

A local cafe has revealed plans for ‘something new and exciting’ after announcing it would be closing its doors within days.

“Watch this space” – that’s the message Husky’s Cafe has for residents after it was announced it would be shutting its doors within days.

The Kingaroy cafe made the announcement on Facebook earlier this week, prompting an outpouring of emotions from locals.

But owner Daniel Huskisson said it wasn’t the end of his involvement with the site, hinting at something new on the cards.

“We’re revamping – watch this space,” Mr Huskisson said.

“It’s (going to be) something new that the community hasn’t had yet – something very, very exciting.”

Husky’s opened its doors in November 2019 – just before Covid threw the world into disarray.

Born and bred Kingaroy boy Mr Huskisson and cafe manager Brooke Gallagher said running the cafe during the pandemic had been “really hard” with the pair facing ups and downs over the past nearly two years.

While Husky’s as a cafe will be now more, Mr Huskisson’s other business, Utopia Cafe on Kingaroy St, will continue to trade as normal.

The community won’t have to wait long to find out what will replace the cafe either.

“Things are going to happen very quickly … a very quick renovation and then things will open up,” he said.

Cafe manager Ms Gallagher thanked the community for their support over the past nearly two years, while Mr Huskisson had particular praise for the local business community’s support.

“There’s a lot of people out there who are really trying to make a difference in the community, they put their money where their mouth by helping out their fellow businesses,” he said.

Husky’s Cafe will close its doors for the final time on October 4.
