Brett Otto’s health issue forces extended personal leave

South Burnett Mayor Brett Otto has gone on extended leave from his council leadership role with an undefined return date.

The South Burnett Regional Council announced in a statement on Monday that Mr Otto would be taking extended personal leave, and a council spokesman said the Mayor was suffering a health issue.
“During this time, Deputy Mayor Gavin Jones will be acting as mayor of the South Burnett Regional Council,” the a spokesman said.
The council declined to provide any further information.
Mr Otto’s mother Pauline Otto died on July 11, 2023 after an ongoing battle with a medical condition.

“Council respectfully requests the family’s privacy at this time,” a spokesman said.
