The South Burnett Regional Council announced in a statement on Monday that Mr Otto would be taking extended personal leave, and a council spokesman said the Mayor was suffering a health issue.

“During this time, Deputy Mayor Gavin Jones will be acting as mayor of the South Burnett Regional Council,” the a spokesman said.

The council declined to provide any further information.

Mr Otto’s mother Pauline Otto died on July 11, 2023 after an ongoing battle with a medical condition.

“Council respectfully requests the family’s privacy at this time,” a spokesman said.
