A man in his 80s has been flown to hospital after the car he was in rolled trying to avoid a kangaroo

Two patients have been hospitalised, including a man in his 80s who was flown to hospital, after a car rolled on the Burnett Hwy due to reportedly swerving to avoid a Kangaroo.

A man has been airlifted to hospital, in the Land Rover LifeFlight Special Mission Helicopter, after a serious single vehicle rollover, in the North Burnett region on Sunday morning, June 13.

The rescue chopper was called to the scene just after 6am at Reids Creek.

Queensland Ambulance officers first responded to reports of a rollover at 5.35am.

Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) firefighters were also in attendance, when the aeromedical team arrived.

The pilot was able to land the aircraft on a stretch of highway, which had been closed by the Queensland Police Service (QPS) officers.

It’s believed the man was passenger in a vehicle, which rolled down a 5 metre embankment, after the driver reportedly swerved to avoid hitting a kangaroo.

QFES and QAS personnel had released the man, aged in his 80s, and carried him up to the road before the rescue chopper arrived.

He was airlifted to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, under the care of the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and a QAS Flight Paramedic.

The female driver was treated by QAS and transported to Gayndah Hospital in a stable condition with chest injuries.
