Rugby League Ipswich investigates fight involving spectators at Goodna Eagles and Swifts A Grade clash

Footage has been shared on social media of a wild fight that erupted on the sidelines of an A Grade rugby league game near Brisbane at the weekend.

Witnesses have reported that at least four spectators were attacked during the fight at the Goodna Eagles and Swifts Bluebirds game on Sunday.

Shayne Green, who posted the video to Facebook, said some of the players were “a pack of dirty grubs who needed to be banned”.

The footage captures punches being thrown before a shirtless man is dragged by players from the violence and into a dressing room.

Rugby League Ipswich released a statement on Facebook, saying that they had been made aware of the incident involving violence at one of its A Grade venues.

“While passion and tribalism are a big part of Rugby League, there remains no excuse for violence on or off the field,” the statement read.

Jacqui Ison, who witnessed the fight, said several players from the Goodna side got involved in the fight.

She credited two Goodna players for helping a Swifts player to safety “after being bashed”.

Corey Wickert commented, “This is the reason why mums pull their kids out of rugby league n play other sports. Absolutely disgusted in this but I guarantee this club gets a slap on the wrist.”

A spokesman from Queensland Rugby League said that “Rugby League Ipswich has been made aware of the incident and is investigating.”

“We, as in QRL, will monitor and provide the necessary support as required. We’re extremely disappointed to see the footage as behaviour like that at a community sporting event is terrible and won’t be tolerated,” he said.
