Clay Shooting: Local businesses will line up this Saturday for the annual Roma Charity Clay Target Shoot to raise funds for Australian drought relief.

This year's competition will be held on Saturday, November 3.

The event is a joint initiative of the Roma Clay Target Club and Lions Roma and has raised more than $80,000 for local charities since its inception in the 80s.

Teams of five competitors from businesses and organisations across the Maranoa will compete in three events and there are a large range of trophies and prizes on offer.

Roma Gun Club president Andrew Whyte said no shooting experience or weapons licence was necessary and the club would provide guns and ammunition.

"The day is a fantastic excuse to get a team from work together and have a go at clay target shooting.

"Roma has an amazing facility on our doorstep and this is the chance to check it all out.”

The event is held annually and always attracts a large number of competitors and an impressive atmosphere.

"A lot of the teams bring family and mates along, have a few drinks, a good feed and really enjoy the entire day.

"The club loves it because we introduce locals to a sport we enjoy,” Mr Whyte said. "And we always get a couple of shooters that continue competing.”

Nominations are $50 per shooter and registrations will be taken on the day.

"There will be junior, open and novice teams and your team will be graded based on the experience in your team.”
