Police treating disappearance of Jeremiah Rivers as suspicious

In a major development, the Homicide Investigation Unit is assisting police to find missing man Jeremiah Rivers, who disappeared in remote southwest Queensland nearly three weeks ago.

Police are treating the disappearance of Jeremiah Rivers as suspicious after he vanished from a campsite in remote southwest Queensland nearly three weeks ago.

An incident centre has been established at the Cunnamulla Police Station, where local Criminal Investigation Branch detectives are being assisted by the Homicide Investigation Unit.

The 27-year-old was last seen near Wippo Creek, which is approximately 20km south of Noccundra on Monday, October 18.

His friends reported him missing when he went for a walk and never returned.

Extensive land and aerial searches have so far failed to find Jeremiah and police hold grave fears for his safety.

On Tuesday police appealed to motorists with dash cameras who travelled along or near Warry Gate Road between Bundeena Road and Silver City Road between October 17 and October 20 to check their footage for anyone walking along the roadway.

Southern Regional Crime Coordinator Acting Superintendent Stephen Blanchfield, said the matter was being treated as suspicious after no confirmed sightings of Jeremiah.

“We are urging anyone who may have information relating to the movements of Jeremiah and we are specifically calling for anyone with information regarding his disappearance to contact us,” Detective Acting Superintendent Blanchfield said.

“We would like to provide answers to Jeremiah’s family and locate him.”

Acting Superintendent Blanchfield said investigators were encouraged by information provided so far and said even the seemingly smallest piece of information regarding could assist.

Family and friends of Jeremiah travelled to Noccundra from Western Australia and the Northern Territory to search for him, including his mother Joanne, and his aunt and uncle Belinda and Digby Rivers.

Jeremiah is described as Aboriginal, approximately 185cm tall, with a slim build and a tattoo of a cross under his right arm.

To date a number of lines of inquiry have been identified and investigations into Jeremiah’s disappearance are continuing.
