A massive air and land search is continuing across south west Queensland to try and find missing man Jeremiah Rivers, who disappeared on his journey back to Darwin from a football trip.

The 27-year-old man was last seen near Wilsons River at 9.30am on October 18, approximately 20km south of Noccundra.

He was camping and fishing in the area with friends, who reported him missing when he failed to return from a walk.

Jeremiah’s mother Joanne Rivers said he was travelling from NSW back to Darwin NT after playing AFL in Balranald NSW with Balranald Roos.

“Jayo is one of eight siblings and is loved and cherished by a large extended family of the Rivers, Purdie in the Kimberleys and NT regions,” Ms Rivers said.

“He is an outgoing young man and avid Fremantle Dockers fan.

“It is out of character for Jayo not to contact his family. We are very concerned about this situation.”

Ms Rivers has started a GoFundMe page to help her family travel to Queensland from Western Australia to help police search for Jeremiah.

Jeremiah is an Aboriginal man from the East Kimberley Region in Western Australia, and is about 185cm tall with a slender build and tattoo of a cross under his right arm.

He was last seen wearing a red Chicago Bulls singlet, red Adidas sneakers and black jeans.

Thursday's search included police, SES and local cattle station staff, and focused on the north west side of Warri Gate Road along Wippo Creek and spreading northwards.

Searches were conducted by personnel in vehicles, motorcycles and All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). Aerial searches were carried out by fixed-wing aircraft, including with FLIR capability, and a gyrocopter.

Police have established a Forward Command Post at Cunnamulla.
