A Roma man has been caught attempting to hide from police under a car after they allegedly intercepted him riding an e-scooter without a helmet.
About 4.35am on November 5 police allegedly saw a man riding an e-scooter without a helmet along McDowall St
Police allege the man attempted to evade officers by hiding under a vehicle in a car yard.
Following a search police allegedly located a knife that was attached to the e-scooter.
The 24-year-old man was charged with possession of a knife in a public place and issued with a $166 fine for personal mobility device rider failing to wear a helmet.
Following further investigations, the man was also charged with an additional seven offences in relation to alleged motor vehicle, property, forgery and drug offences.
He has been remanded in custody to appear in the Roma Magistrates Court on November 26.
Roma police said they were continuing to take a strong stance against the operation of non-compliant e-bikes, e-scooters and e-motorbikes and on November 3 they launched Operation X-ray Surety, a three month statewide campaign focusing on addressing unsafe behaviours, particularly during the school holiday period.
The Queensland Police Service will be adopting the engage, educate and enforcement approach during the targeted operation and each district is implementing its own localised strategies.
Riders and parents are being informed that non-compliant use would result in fines, charges, and in some cases the non-compliant e-mobility devices being seized.
