PINAROO Nursing Home paid tribute to the tireless efforts of its employees with a special celebration on Tuesday.

In its first year, the aged care employee day is an initiative of Leading Age Services Australia.

It was created to acknowledge the positive difference aged care workers make in the everyday lives of older Australians.

Karen Dries of Pinaroo Nursing Home said the day was a chance to reflect on an occupation as rewarding as it is demanding.

"It was a really great day - just to acknowledge all the work of our employees here at Pinaroo,” she said.

"This job, while it is enormously satisfying, can also be quite difficult, so it was nice just to celebrate everyone's efforts.

"It has been really satisfying to see all the employees who showed up to help make the day so special.

"Aged care workers contribute enormously to the lives of elderly Australians for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year in year out so it's important just to sit back and acknowledge that.”

The employees celebrated the day by sharing pieces of cake with one another - a fitting reward for a job that is anything but.
