Police have had drug drivers in the St George area in their sights, charging seven people in a matter of weeks for testing positive to a cocktail of drugs while behind the wheel.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said officers have charged seven people with drug driving offences in St George since February 3.

Police say the drivers were under the influence of methamphetamine or cannabis while driving.

“While offence numbers fluctuate, St George police are committed to continued efforts to deter drug driving behaviour and enhance road safety for all residents by maintaining a visible presence and enforcing zero-tolerance policies,” the spokesperson said.

“Expect to see police anywhere and anytime, targeting drivers who choose to make the wrong decisions.

“People must take individual responsibility for their safety, acknowledging that safe driving starts with the person behind the wheel. Every decision you make behind the wheel, counts.”
