The Maranoa Regional Council is in a period of flux, with the chief executive announcing her resignation days after the new council, including a new mayor, was officially declared.

In the recent local government elections, mayor of eight years Tyson Golder was decisively voted out in favour of Wendy Taylor but it’s not the only imminent change at the top.

With the new council set to be sworn in next week, it was revealed that the chief executive of the Maranoa Regional Council, Edwina Marks, has tendered her resignation.

A Maranoa Regional Council spokesman confirmed the chief executive’s tenure would end later this year.

“Maranoa Regional Council chief executive Edwina Marks confirms that she will step down from her role, effective July 17 2024. The existing council was advised of this decision and it was to be publicly announced at the new council’s first ordinary meeting on April 10,” the spokesman said.

“Her decision is routine to facilitate the change of council and to enable an orderly transition and time to find her successor.”

No comment has been made yet as to who Ms Mark’s successor may be.

While the council is crucial in making the big decisions relevant to the region, it is the chief executive who ensures that the day to day operations of council run smoothly.
