Omicron surge 'challenging' for childcare centres

An independent agency has ranked early learning centres across the state, revealing the childcare providers in the Maranoa who are going above and beyond for the region’s tiniest residents, and those centres falling short.

New data released from Kindi Care shows the ones who are standing above the rest.

Both campuses at Milestones Early Learning in Roma topped the list with campus 1 receiving an incredible 8.72 out of 10 rating and campus two scoring 8.62.

An Affinity Education Group spokesman said Milestones Early Learning in Roma currently employs 40 educators with more than 150 years of combined experience in early education and care.

“They are supported by an experienced team of early childhood learning and development experts providing them with resources and the support they need to set them up for success,” she said.

“The centre has access to a national program of training, quality reviews, and this ensures high quality early education and care.

“We have a Healthy Children framework for our activities, events and excursions, along with an incoming STEM program in 2022.

The spokeswoman said Milestones Early Learning Roma aimed to ensure children are prepared emotionally, socially, academically and physically.

“Our goal is to instil a lifelong love of learning in every child, so they can reach their full potential,” she said.

“As they say, it takes a village to raise a child, and we’re proud to be part of so many Roma families’ lives.”

The next highest rating childcare centre in the Maranoa region can be found in Mitchell, where Mitchell Early Childhood Education Centre director Lynda Dorries says the focus is on learning through play.

After scoring an excellent 8.51 out of 10, Ms Dorries said she and her team of six educators love all the children like their own and focus on making their learning enjoyable.

“It’s like a party in here,” she laughed.

“It’s not super structured, so the children can learn at their own pace.”

Ms Dorries, a mother of five herself, said the centre tried to individualise children’s learning experience.

“We also do a lot with the community and try to get them involved,” she said.

“We have an elder who comes in on Wednesday’s to teach the children to paint and play traditional games.”

The Kindi Care app’s rating system compared more than 16,400 providers and made its decision based on many factors including government audits and family feedback.
