Outback Queensland Masters in St George this weekend with $10,000 prize up for grabs
A whopping $10,000 is up for grabs for amateur golfers this weekend in a regional Queensland town as part of a major outback golfing tournament spanning across six regions.

Amateur golfers making the trip to the South West Queensland town of St George will have the chance to win $10,000 for a hole-in-one.
Golfers are reported to be travelling from as far as Tasmania and Western Australia to tee off this weekend at the St George course As part of the 2023 Outback Queensland Masters competition.
The six-location event draws golfing enthusiasts to some of Queensland’s most remote golf courses.
Balonne Shire Mayor Samantha O’Toole said she was excited to welcome visitors from across Australia to St George this week for the official tee-off on Saturday June 17, with the competition set to run throughout June and July.
“We’re thrilled to have this distinguished golfing event at the St George Golf Club with the calibre of Outback Queensland Masters golfers on its fairways,” Ms O’Toole said.
“This is a stellar opportunity for local residents and visitors to witness an exciting display of talent, precision, and sportsmanship.
“Not only will these tournaments bring top-tier golf to our doorstep, but they also offer an opportunity for our youth to engage with PGA Professional Darren Weatherall and perhaps kindle dreams of becoming future golf champions.
“Whilst in our shire, I would encourage visitors to explore, unwind and take in our region’s unique natural beauty, vibrant communities and rich history before and after the event.”
The program kicks off with breakfast this Saturday morning, followed by the official tee off at 8.30am. The competition includes 9 holes each day for Saturday and Sunday.
Those joining the first leg of the golfing journey will be treated to an evening under the stars accompanied by opera and musical theatre performances, plus a leading Australian ventriloquist Darren Carr
Six local councils including Balonne, Paroo, Quilpie. Richmond, Carpentina and Mount Isa, have banded together to bring this major event to regional Queenslanders, partnering with Golf Australia, Rex Airlines, PGA of Australia and the Tourism & Events Queensland and Birdie Spirit Partners.
As a community give-back and to provide opportunities for young people in St George and Outback Queensland, free Junior Golf Clinics are being staged at all six locations on the Outback Queensland Masters with PGA Pro, Darren Weatherall.
