PLANNING school holiday activities can be a challenge for any family when there are six weeks to fill.

In an effort to make some of those days a little bit easier, Roma's Seventh Day Adventist Church held its inaugural Holiday Fun Fest this week.

Backed by an enthusiastic team, Rachel Steinohrt said the week of activities was better than she could have imagined.

"This is the first time we've ever done the Holiday Fun Fest before,” she said.

"So we didn't know how many people would come or if anyone would show up, but it has worked out really well.

"We picked out some craft activities, science activities, songs and games for the kids, and I organised for a group from Toowoomba to come and help us out too.

"We started on Monday and have had about 25 to 30 kids each day.

"It has been a different group of kids each time, as well as some who have come along every single day.

"It has been a really great turnout,” she said.

When putting the program together, Ms Steinohrt said her primary goal was to make sure everyone left feeling happy.

"Every kid deserves something fun to do on their holidays,” she said.

"This is a nice way for them all to get together, and feel both supported and welcomed.

"I think they've all enjoyed it, the kids have made sherbet and stress balls, all kinds of things.

"Most importantly this is something to keep them smiling,” she said.

Following up on the considerable success of their first program, the collective of young church members is hopeful to do it all again.

"We will probably run it again in the next January school holidays, maybe start running it each year,” Ms Steinohrt said.

Holiday Fun Fest wraps up tomorrow at midday.
