This year’s Roma Show was a huge success as it celebrated it’s 139th year over the weekend as it showcased the hard work of local farmers, horse riders, pet owners, artists and more.

Attendees were treated to an abundance of carnival rides, showbags and treats and various displays of local talent.

Chief Steward of Horticulture Helen Dillon said she is passionate about encouraging more juniors to submit entries into the Horticulture section of the show.

“Getting juniors to be a part of the show is what it’s all about,” Ms Dillon said.

“This year we have a new junior division category - the seedpod animal creations,” she said.

“We got a lot of interest from adults wanting to enter this category so next year we’re looking to create an adult category for the seedpod scultpures.”

Ms Dillon said the section is open to a diverse range of entries.

“People can even enter a weed if they want - it’s alive and can be part of a beautful arrangement.

“Every year on the website we put up the schedule for the Horticulture Section which people can look at all the categories they can enter.

“A lot of people come to the show and see how many categories we have and say to me ‘oh, I grow this and that at home - I could’ve entered.”

She said this year the Horticulture Section has a new home in the Wool Hall which allows them to expand in future years.

“We still have room to expand in this building up against the back wall.

“But just like all other sections we need more volunteers.

“A lot of people want to help but don’t know how, even if it means people come and help us set up the grandstands.”
