With the location of a former Ampol petrol station up for grabs in St George, locals have had their say on what they’d like to see built in the vacant space.
The site is part of a $20m Ampol portfolio sale comprising 13 locations, with three in Queensland and South Australia, four in Victoria, two in Western Australia and one in NSW.
Located at 104 Victoria St, the St George location is approximately 3041sq m and is situated in the heart of the town near the Cultural Centre, the Cobb and Co Hotel and Golders.
On social media people have weighed in what they’d like to see at the site.
Several commenters suggested the 3041sqm site would be great for carparking due to its prime location on St George’s main street.
“Balonne shire council should buy caravan and carparking”, Peter Goodwin said
“Car park would be so good!,” Kirsty Waters commented.
“Yes another car/caravan parking area would be very helpful for visitors and shoppers,” Angela Anne Hicks Doran agreed.
Commenters Leah and Kayleen both suggested an Aldi with there currently no stores in Roma, Charleville or St George.
Graeme Thrupp suggested building another service station at the site while Amanda Hicks proposed a car wash.
Meanwhile others commenter suggested the site was an ideal location for more food options.
“Balonne Shire Council, St George needs its bakery replaced,” Melissa Williams said.
Ruth Holder also suggested a bakery.
Cushman and Wakefield’s national director and head of investment sales QLD Daniel Cullinane who is in charge of the sale of the site also suggested take away.
“There’s a hell of a lot of stuff going on and even the one out at St George – St George needs fast food, I was out there not long ago, and I think something like that would be prime for a drive through or something, because it’s 3000 metres on the best corner of town. A McDonald’s would work so well.”
Mr Cullinane said he expected the site to be popular with investors.
“This portfolio represents a rare opportunity to acquire well-located land in tightly held locations, whether for immediate development or strategic land banking,” Mr Cullinane said in a press release.
“Given the scarcity of prime arterial sites and the continued strength of convenience retail and service-based assets, we expect this opportunity will appeal to developers seeking shovel-ready or strategically positioned projects, owner-occupiers chasing high-exposure sites, and investors looking to land bank quality real estate in growth corridors.
“It (a site like this) just doesn’t come up every often so I expect we’re going to be run off our feet with that one as well.”
