Clashes between the Condamine Cods and the Roma Echidnas took centre stage at this weekend's rugby races.

This year's race day featured more rugby action than last, with both the C grade and A grade Echidnas fielding a team.

The C grade Echidnas took to the pitch a little after 3pm for their match against the Cods.

Both teams were evenly matched in the first half, with Cods putting two tries on the board before half time.

The second half proved to be a game changer for the visiting team, as the Cods doubled down on their attack.

Echidnas Harry Scott and Matt Howse scored two tries for the home side, however the Cods were a force to be reckoned with, scoring 3 tries to put the final score at 31-7 to Condamine.

The A grade Echidnas fared only slightly better against the Condamine side.

The sun had started to set and the temperature had dropped as the A grade teams took to the pitch.

Both sides showed strong defensive efforts in the first half, with a majority of play midfield.

A Cods player broke through the Echidnas defence to put the first score on the board, and this was carried through to half time.

The second half proved more eventful as the players found their stride.

Echidna's Liam Walker sprinted through a hole in the Cods back-line to score Roma's first try, and Keil McClutchie followed suit.

However the Condamine side answered swiftly with three more tries, maintaining their lead until the end of the match. The final score was 24-12.

Echidnas captain Tom Sheridan said the game had been hard fought, and congratulated the Condamine side on their wins.
