Jess Allen remains in intensive care but is “making positive progress”, according to her sister Jaime Mchugh.

There has been a groundswell of support for the 21-year-old mum, whose heart stopped while she was running water in a rugby union game in Gladstone on Saturday.

Bystanders and players performed CPR to keep Jess alive before ambulance officers arrived.

She was taken to Gladstone Hospital before being airlifted to Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane in an induced coma.

She remains in the ICU in a critical but stable condition.

Her one-year-old daughter Amanii is being cared for by friends in Rockhampton.

Jaime said Amanii was “missing her mummy and can’t wait to be back with her”.

Jaime has been with Jess for the past two days, while her younger sister Bella and mum Trudy have been at her bedside since she was transferred to Brisbane on Sunday morning.

Jess is a popular member of the Frenchville Pioneers Rugby Club and was running water for their A-grade men’s team in the Rugby Capricornia semi-final when the incident happened.

She has an underlying heart condition but was fit and active, and a talented sportswoman who played rugby union, rugby league, touch and oztag.

Frenchville club members Rebekah Asse and Kalani Heke set up a gofundme page for Jess and her daughter, which has already raised $11,000.

Jaime said the response was incredible.

“We as a family and on behalf of Jess and Amanii would like to say thank you for the amazing support from the community,” she said.

“Jess is making positive progress in the right direction but is not out of the woods yet.

“She’s a fighter.

“Please everyone, keep her in your thoughts and we will see her back home with us soon.”
