ISA Rockhampton is holding a fundraiser on Friday night for member Mark Briggs, who remains critically ill in the Rockhampton Hospital.

ISA Rockhampton sports co-ordinator Amanda Hill is amazed and overwhelmed at the incredible response to a fundraiser planned for Mark Briggs and his family.

Mark, a much-loved member of the ISA community, is critically ill and has spent more than 40 days in hospital.

Amanda and the ISA team rallied behind Mark and his family, organising a Thundering 3s beach volleyball competition and a Fast 5s netball competition to be played on Friday at the North Rockhampton complex.

An elated Amanda said on Thursday that 38 teams were nominated for the volleyball, with 18 for the netball.

“It’s going to be a huge night, absolutely huge, and I couldn’t be happier,” she said.

“It will be really nice to be able to give this family a big wad of cash.

“Just from the team nominations alone, we’re well and truly over $5000.

“We’re also going to have an auction and multi-draw raffle on the night for which we’ve received tremendous support from the business community.

“Our volleyballers went away to a carnival in Mackay last weekend and we took a raffle up there which raised $1500, and we plan to run the same raffle here at a carnival at the end of the month.

“We’re definitely getting behind them and doing the best we can to hopefully ease their burden a little bit.”

Amanda said Mark was a familiar face at ISA, as were his wife Sam and their two children.

She described Mark as one of the kindest and most genuine people you would ever meet.

“He wouldn’t be able to say thank you enough for what we’re doing,” she said.

“Just thinking about it, I’m quite overwhelmed. I can feel the tears welling up.

“It’s lovely that we can do this, and that everyone has got behind it the way they have.

“It means so much.”
