Yeppoon Medpods: New medical centre at Bay Plaza

After patients have checked in at the new centre, they can go shopping while they wait for a text message when the doctor is ready to see them. Full details here.

A new medical centre has opened in Yeppoon’s Bay Plaza as part of the extensive renovations to the shopping centre.

Medpods is a company of medical centres across Queensland, with centres in Maroochydore, North Lakes and now Yeppoon.

The centres have been designed to have a “futuristic” look and are centred around modern technology with iPad checking bars for patients, self-service check in at computer kiosks and a paperless system.

Scripts are also done electronically.

The new medical centre offers mixed billed appointments.

Patients can also enjoy not having to wait for hours in the doctors surgery.

After patients have checked in at the centre, they can go shopping while they wait at the nearby Coles or grab a coffee and they will get a text message when the doctor is ready to see them.

At the helm of the Yeppoon practice is Dr Madoc Schlencker, who is welcoming new patients.

Dr Madoc is a Central Queensland local who completed his degree of Bachelor of Science Biology (Honours) at Central Queensland University, and from there he went into medicine with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with University of Queensland in 2004.

After some work in the Redcliffe and Caboolture hospitals, Dr Madoc returned home to the Capricorn Coast to be closer to his extended family.

He has worked for the past 14 years in general practice in Emerald, Yeppoon and Rockhampton.

He has a passion for working in Indigenous health, having worked on Thursday Island and Bathurst Island and has also participated in medical aid abroad for two months.

Medpods Medical Centre Yeppoon offers mixed billed GP services to local residents and visitors.

The Bay Plaza has been undergoing a big facelift in the past couple of years with the relocation of the Snap Fitness gym to a new building outside the centre and internal works inside the complex.

New tenants under the renovations include Groove Train - a wood-fired restaurant, cafe and bar and burger chain Pattysmiths.

The centre will also have a gold class boutique cinema, run by private owners, Ann-Maree and Chris Struik who operate the Gladstone Cinemas.
