The Highway Palms shopping complex near Emmaus College has been undergoing a major facelift for the past couple of years, with the latest plans revealed for a new carpark.
Toowoomba investor Longin Kenealy purchased the site in January 2019 for $2.5 million and has been bringing the complex back up to scratch since, rebranding it as Yaamba Road Central.
A paint job has been completed along with new awnings and just a general tidy up, and there has been new tenants move in including Bob’s Bulk Booze and Smoooth Juice.
A development application was submitted to Rockhampton Regional Council last month for a new carpark at the complex.
The carpark would be at 29 Denning Street, where a house is now located.
This property sold to Mr Kenealy’s company in June 2021 for $200,000.
The application is proposing to redevelop the lot as a carpark and ancillary refuse storage area.
The carpark would provide 23 parking spaces and there would be a new access driveway off Sheehy Street.
This would allow nearby residents to access onsite car parking without having to get onto the busy highway, Yaamba Road.
The application has been suggested for approval in that it provides enhanced parking and accessibility with a safe and easy access to the complex.
It is yet to be determined by the council.
