Two killed in serious truck crash on Leichhardt Highway at Wowan

Emergency crews were called to a serious crash on a Central Queensland highway on Tuesday morning. Here’s what we know.

Police have confirmed two men were killed in a horror crash near Wowan in Central Queensland on Tuesday morning.

Preliminary investigations indicate the two trucks, a white pantech delivery truck and a flat-bed tow truck, were travelling in opposite directions on the Leichhardt Highway when they collided near Mullers Rd about 8.15am.

The driver and sole occupant of the flat-bed tow truck, a 64-year-old Allenstown man, and the driver and sole occupant of the pantech delivery truck, a 52-year-old Kawana man, both died at the scene.

One of the men killed in the crash was well-known towie Steve Latimer.

The highway was closed in both directions for some time.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating and are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision to come forward, including those who may have seen the two vehicles travelling on the Leichhardt Highway in the vicinity of Wowan in the lead up to the crash.
