Truck rollover on Bruce Highway at Kunwarara, north of Rockhampton

A truck rolled, spilling diesel and completely blocking the Bruce Hwy between Rockhampton and Mackay for several hours. Now, police are calling for dash cam footage. UPDATES, VIDEO.

Police have called for witnesses or anyone with dash cam footage to come forward after a truck rollover closed the Bruce Highway for hours on Friday, between Rockhampton and Mackay.

Emergency services crews were first called at 1.20pm to the crash on the Bruce Highway near the Grosvenor Park Road at Kunwarara, north of Rockhampton.

The highway between Rockhampton and Mackay opened about 7.30pm on Friday.

On Saturday morning, a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police welcomed anyone with information or footage to contact them.

The QPS spokeswoman said it was not clear yet if driver error caused the crash.

“Whether or not there’s charges, is yet to be determined,” she said.

Police investigations are ongoing.

After the crash on Friday afternoon, police at the time said the highway was closed in both directions and was expected to remain so for “a couple of hours”.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said there were two QFES units at the scene where there was “a lot of diesel on the ground” and the truck was on its side.

They said the driver was out of the vehicle.

Cathy Overlack came across the crash, posting a video of the scene on Facebook.

She told this publication there were people diverting traffic before emergency services arrived.

“They were doing an awesome job,” Ms Overlack said, explaining she went past the crash about three or four minutes after it occurred and a friend behind her sent a photo showing cars self-diverting alongside the rail line running up the coast.

“The driver was about to hop out of the truck as we passed,” she said.

“Seemed to be okay as he was standing up inside the cab and someone was trying to get him out.”

It came after emergency crews responded to multiple crashes across the state on Friday, including on the Sunshine Coast where traffic on the Bruce Hwy was at a standstill and at Glenwood between Gympie and Maryborough where another truck also rolled on the highway.
