A construction contract will likely be awarded later this year for the upgrade of the Rosslyn Bay Boat Harbour public boat ramps.
A dredged basin and 60m of extra berthing pontoons are among new inclusions in the revised concept.
Boaties were asked to have their say on the planning phase, with Keppel MP Brittany Lauga saying consultation was an important step in understanding the needs of the community.
“A big thank you goes out to all those who participated in the consultation process, which has allowed us to better understand what locals want and need from this upgraded boat ramp,” she said.
“All feedback was considered by Maritime Safety Queensland, and will be incorporated into the design phase of the project.
“We are committed to improving the harbour’s launching capacity, which is why we are pushing ahead with this important upgrade.”
The revised concept would include:
- Improved queuing facilities to address on-water congestion;
- Dredged basin;
- Sheet pile wall;
- 60m of extra berthing pontoons between the two boat ramps.
Ms Lauga said the upgrade would provide more space at all tides for boaties to berth during busy periods.
“We’re also shortening the extension of the floating walkway on the Breakwater Drive ramp to 42m, and straightening it to allow for easier berthing on both sides,” she said.
“The Breakwater Drive ramp will also be widened by one lane on the eastern side.
“Design and approval will now get underway, with a construction contract likely to be awarded in late 2022.
“This means we will see the upgraded facilities completed by mid-2023, weather permitting.“
The upgrade works are being funded by the Maritime Safety Queensland’s Maritime Infrastructure and Investment Program.
