A $25 million superyacht moored off Great Keppel Island has sparked plenty of interest - and speculation.
Tracking information had the Keri Lee III en route to Great Keppel Island, arriving at 10pm Monday, and it was still there on Wednesday.
Many have assumed that onboard is Gina Rinehart, whose company Hancock Prospecting revealed last October it had entered into an agreement to potentially acquire the Great Keppel Island resort redevelopment project from Tower Holdings.
But The Morning Bulletin has it on good authority that it is not Ms Rinehart, Australia’s richest person.
Whoever it is must have deep pockets, though.
The 55.2m luxury motor yacht costs $310,000 a week to charter in low season, $365,000 a week in peak season.
It may even be the yacht’s owners on board - Brisbane-based meat processor Australian Country Choice’s Trevor Lee and wife, fashion designer Keri Craig-Lee.
The couple established Australian Country Choice in 1995, one of Australia’s largest meat supply chains as well as Keri Lee Charters and Sutherland Aviation.
In 2021, Trevor Lee was ranked 154 on the Australian’s Richest 250 list with a fortune of $753m.
The vessel was launched in 2001 by Trinity Yachts in the United States and was refitted in 2016.
It can accommodate up to 12 guests in four double and two twin cabins, all with their own ensuite bathrooms.
The Keri Lee III is promoted as being ideal for trans-Atlantic voyages, with ample entertainment and socialising spaces, gym equipment, spa pool, swim platform and water toys.
Her interior design is described as “traditional yacht”, fitted with a rich mahogany and olive ash burl woodwork.
