A young underage single mother angry with the father of her baby went to his residence and trashed his room before sending him 65 Snapchat messages in 90 minutes, a court has heard.

These actions landed her in Rockhampton Children’s Court only days before her 18th birthday.

Police prosecutor Claudia Neill-Ballantine said the defendant rode to the victim’s house on an e-scooter then entered the home without permission, where she “completely trashed the room, including pouring sauce and silly string over the bed and bedding”, damaged a gaming system and cut every power cord and cable.

Ms Neill-Ballantine said the teenage mum left a note on the bed saying “add me back and actually talk. Already told cops and everyone around you. Love you”.

She said the girl took some items and left.

Ms Neill-Ballantine said the defendant then sent the victim 65 messages in 90 minutes on Snapchat, including “look at your room”, accused him of cheating, “I have your kid but you want nothing to do with your own kid”, “all your cords are cut” and “maybe I should tell her (referring to his new partner) we had a booty call last night”.

Ms Neill-Ballantine said the teen contravened a domestic violence order by this behaviour – the order only had the condition of good behaviour.

She said the defendant told the police the victim’s roommate had let her into the house and she tried to downplay her involvement in the damage, but did end up conceding she did cut one cord.

Defence lawyer Sean Gibbs said his 17-year-old client - a single mother of an infant - had no previous dealings with police or criminal history.

Mr Gibbs said the victim is older than her and he refuses to have anything to do with their child, including both care for the infant and paying child support.

He said his client was frustrated about the victim not wanting to care for the child or assist her.

“She would have been 16 when she was pregnant,” Mr Gibbs said.

“Something that would have been difficult for her.”

He said the defendant maintains she didn’t do the bulk of the damage but she was there and participated.

Mr Gibbs said his client lives with her mother and siblings.

The defendant pleaded guilty on December 3, 2024 to one count each enter dwelling and causing damage (domestic violence offence), using a carriage service to menace or harass (DV offence), using a personal mobility device without a helmet and breaching a DVO.

Acting Magistrate Stephen Burns ordered she be reprimanded and no convictions recorded.
