A young woman who had previously worked at Uluru has been sentenced for slashing her boyfriend’s throat during an argument.
Lertonya Roberta Sullivan, 22, fronted Rockhampton District Court for the offence which left a seven centimetre laceration on the victim’s neck.
The court heard the pair were arguing over cigarettes as Sullivan was packing her belongings to leave at Blackwater.
Crown prosecutor Arielle Spiteri said Sullivan took a pair of scissors and slashed the victim’s neck, causing a seven centimetre laceration which required cleaning, gluing and steri-strips to close it.
She said Sullivan called triple-0 and told the operator the victim’s injury was sustained from a thrown fence paling, but later told police she had been stirred up by him continuously talking and yelling at her.
Ms Spiteri said the victim would not provide a statement to police.
Defence barrister Maree Willey said this had been Sullivan’s first real relationship.
She said prior to this relationship, Sullivan had used drugs and that usage significantly increased during the relationship.
Ms Willey said Sullivan does not want to resume a relationship with the victim and plans on relocating back to Cherbourg where her mother lives and Sullivan had previously worked in landscaping for 12 months prior to going to work at Uluru for 12 months.
Judge Jeff Clarke said Sullivan had a lot of “drive” and it was important she removed drugs from her life.
Ms Spiteri said Sullivan had criminal history, which included possessing a knife in public twice, which mostly post dated this offence which took place on August 15, 2023.
She said while Sullivan was not to be in contact with the victim, according to court orders, the pair were often found together and even living together.
The court heard the victim also had a court order in place prohibiting him from being in contact with Sullivan.
Ms Spiteri said there was an earlier incident were the victim was captured on CCTV pushing Sullivan against a wall and on another occasion, a witness observed them push each other.
Sullivan was sentenced in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to six-months prison with immediate parole release for stealing and trespass, along with about 30 breaches of bail, stealing and contraventions of domestic violence order for the same victim in this incident.
Sullivan pleaded guilty at a later hearing to one count of wounding and was sentenced to 18 months prison with six days presentence custody declared as time already served and she was released immediately on parole.
