A teenage boy allegedly body slammed a Uber driver’s windscreen in Rockhampton on New Year’s Eve before running off with mates and being chased by police.

The bizarre incident happened on East Street about 8.40pm on Saturday.

“I think the juvenile purposely ran and jumped onto the windscreen, damaging the windscreen of the car,” a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

“So the reports are that (offender/s) have ran and jumped onto the moving car.

“That sounds really weird, like it’s almost like there must have been some interaction beforehand.”

The impact smashed the windscreen of the Toyota Corolla, which was reportedly being driven by a Uber driver.

The QPS spokesman said the juvenile who allegedly jumped onto the vehicle then fled the scene with others.

Police units rushed to the area as the group fled along the riverfront precinct.

It’s understood police caught up with some of those involved.

“We haven’t charged anyone yet but there’s a young teenage boy that’s listed as injured in the traffic crash,” the QPS spokesman said.

Police investigations continue.
