A shock aerial image has emerged showing substances, likely fuel and oil, leaking from a million-dollar yacht sinking off the Capricorn Coast.

The yacht slowly began to sink on Thursday after it smashed into rocks at Lammermoor Beach on Wednesday afternoon before being towed out to deeper water.

The vessel, which The Morning Bulletin understands to be about 27.4m (90ft) owned by a Gold Coast millionaire, came to grief after its anchor lost hold near Rosslyn Bay Marina on Wednesday during rough conditions.

The Coast Guard was called to the vessel again at midnight Thursday after it began taking on water because of a crack in the hull and the caretaker was taken to a hotel.

Debris from the yacht such as life jackets, a tender, mattresses, cushions and other items have been washing up on Lammermoor Beach throughout Friday, with local residents doing their best to remove them from the water and off the beach.

It is understood Maritime Safety Queensland has issued a direction to the owner of the vessel to secure or remove any pollutants aboard the yacht, and a salvage crew is set to attend the scene.

It is understood the boat had been anchored offshore for a number of days and was unable to enter the harbour.

The Morning Bulletin understands the yacht is unregistered, uninsured and had at least 150L of diesel fuel on board.

Yeppoon Coast Guard Flotilla Commander Jim Warren said the weather on Wednesday afternoon “was not friendly” with winds reaching between 20 and 30 knots.

Mr Warren said when the Coast Guard crew first reached the boat, it was bumping towards rocks.

The crew was able to tow the boat to “much deeper water” and the caretaker on board was told to leave out as much anchor rope as possible.

“It was very rough and very windy, we had to be very, very careful,” he said.

The yacht was believed to be rented through online platform Air BnB from $9,356.15 a week for one person, and up to $13,399.68 for 12 guests, however has disappeared off the platform overnight.

The superyacht had another listing anchored off Hamilton Island.

The listing stated the yacht had four bedrooms, one king master and two other double bedrooms and a fourth triple bunk room, all with ensuites.

“Meet the multimillion-dollar four bedroom luxury superyacht, which is now available for five star accommodation, and for corporate or family functions. Now based near Yeppoon, this prime vessel can explore the stunning islands on the Capricorn Coast,” the listing read.

The quoted rate was for accommodation only while anchored off the beach near Great Keppel Island.

Accommodation included two return trips a day to the beach to go to the restaurant and bar at the island or to the mainland, one return trip a day.

A skipper and crew was available for about $1500 an hour but for minimum 3.5 hours, it’s only $3470 or $990 an hour (except peak periods).

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a strong Marine wind warning for the Capricorn Coast as wet weather continues to lash the region.
