Rockhampton police chase: Stolen vehicles spotted driving erratically and crashing

Police were led on a chase throughout Rockhampton after two stolen vehicles were reported to be driving erratically, travelling at high speeds and fleeing the scenes of crashes.

UPDATE 4.30PM: Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in relation to Wednesday morning’s incident.

No charges have yet been laid.

INITIAL 9AM: Police were led on a chase throughout Rockhampton after two stolen vehicles were reported to be driving erratically, travelling at high speeds and fleeing the scenes of crashes on Wednesday morning.

The stolen vehicles, a Mercedes SUV and a Rav4, were seen crashed around 7am off the side of Moores Creek Road and Musgrave Street outside the cemetery but quickly fled the scene.

They were also spotted at Burnett Street, Berserker and a witness reported one of the vehicles had front-end damage.

The vehicles were then reported to be travelling on Thozet Road, Lakes Creek Road and Elphinstone Street.

Multiple police crews were following the vehicles, with cordons established in some areas.

Around 9am, the white RAV4 was reported to have crashed into three vehicles on the Fitzroy Bridge (old bridge) before it drove off from the scene.

Lots of debris was reported on the road, including the front-end bumper of the stolen RAV4.

Witnesses on the scene reported the driver got stuck in peak-hour traffic on the bridge and tried to speed through it, side-swiping and hitting other vehicles in the process.

The stolen vehicle then headed towards the CBD and has since been found dumped in Quay Lane. The dog squad has been called in to assist.

The drivers are believed to be known to police.

A Mazda gold Tribute was also reported stolen from Rockhampton North Retirement Resort, Schuffenhauer Street, Norman Gardens, on Wednesday morning and the incidents may be connected.

This vehicle was found dumped nearby on Brazil and Geaney Streets.
