A gun trio led the way for Norths A-grade women as they registered their first win of the Rockhampton Rugby League season.
The team ran in six tries to two in their comprehensive 32-10 victory against Gladstone Valleys on Saturday.
Star fullback Caydence Fouracre and five-eighth Tasmyn Boody both bagged a double, with the result rocketing Norths three places up the competition ladder.
Coach Shantelle Drake said it was an important win for her players.
“The girls played really well; there was a lot of good communication and they just backed each other,” she said.
“We were really close last week to winning… so this one gives them a bit more confidence and we’ll keep building from here.”
Fouracre was in scintillating form, displaying the silky skills that saw her named the CQ Capras under-19 Player of the Year and selected in the Emerging Queensland Under-19 Women’s Squad.
Drake said the number one’s combination with halfback Mookie House was instrumental in orchestrating the team’s attack, while lock Georgia Wright provided plenty of go-forward with her powerful runs through the middle.
“It’s great to see the girls go out and work hard for each other,” she said.
“Each week, we want to look at improving on something and go from there.”
Drake is all about player development at Norths.
This is her first year coaching the A-grade women, but she is also at the helm of the club’s under-17 girls.
“It’s awesome to see the connection from juniors through to seniors,” she said.
“For me, it’s about watching every one of the girls grow and being able to give them a little something to push them in the right direction and see success coming from it.”
In the weekend’s other results, Rockhampton Brothers beat Fitzroy/Gracemere 28-nil and defending champs Emu Park ran out 30-4 winners over Wallabys.
