Rockhampton Grammar have completed a remarkable resurgence, winning through to their first Dolphins Cup grand final.

They held off a fast-finishing The Cathedral College to score a 10-6 win in their semi-final.

It’s a stunning result for Grammar, who were winless in the competition last year.

They went into Tuesday’s clash knowing they could beat TCC, having done it in Round 2 of the regular season.

They were first on the scoreboard when their powerhouse prop Henry Kallquist crashed over in the 15th minute.

Centre Leo Fanuatanu made it try number two in the shadow of halftime to give them a 10-nil lead at the break.

With their season on the line, TCC came out firing, determined to peg back the lead.

Dolphins-contracted centre Eli McKay crossed in the 42nd minute to make it 10-6 and set the stage for a blockbuster finish.

Grammar’s early kicking game helped relieve some defensive pressure as TCC searched desperately for more points.

They had one last shot when they broke down the left edge, only for Grammar’s winger Cormack Werner to pull off a brilliant tackle to ultimately seal the game and a final berth.

Earlier, St Brendan’s overcame a lightning start from defending champions Emmaus College to pile on five tries straight to win their semi-final showdown.

Captain Simon Green was outstanding, his speed and skill helping orchestrate the 24-10 win.

He was well supported by forward Brock Otto, who did a mountain of work in the middle, and young gun Jay Marsh, who tackled his heart out.

St Brendan’s coach Scott Minto said his outfit showed a fair bit of resilience after Emmaus got the jump on them with two early tries.

Fullback Harri Meilland fired the first shot for Emmaus, scoring just three minutes into the game, before teammate Brenten Haigh went over to make it 10-0.

Brendan’s second rower Harrison Hill helped turn the tide, scoring the first of Brendan’s haul in the 20th minute.

Tyler Melrose, Jay Marsh, Carter Ford and Harvey Mahoney also got in on the action.

Brendan’s showed plenty of flair in attack but their defence was equally as impressive, keeping Emmaus scoreless for almost 50 minutes of the game.

into said it was tough but in the end, his team got home with a fairly decent win.

“The majority of our forwards did a good job, so there’s good signs if we can hold the ball,” he said.

We profile the leading players who could help decide Tuesday’s results.

St Brendan’s

Simon Green

The captain has been huge on all fronts. His stinging defence is complemented by his organisation in the middle third, but it’s his ability to pick the line apart which separates him from the rest. Three tries against Grammar in the team’s last outing will have him humming and full of confidence.

Carter Ford

Last time he played against Emmaus, he scored a try for the ages. Middles don’t score tries like the one he produced that night. He beat two defenders before racing down the sideline and scoring under the posts from his own half. Fully fit and ready to rip in, he will have a big impact in the middle of the field.

Jake Oberhardt

If his game against Grammar was a sign of things to come, then Oberhardt is primed for a big one on Tuesday. He’s raw, aggressive and hungry. In attack he brings late feet, which makes him a constant threat to opposition lines, and then there’s his defence. He loves the contact and competing with each effort. He will look to combine well with the other boys.
